RESTARTING THE MISDIRECTION

I've been away from this project for a very long time, as my focus has been on working and my main actress has been away on tour. However that's noW at an end and having seen Annabel's play last week at Newark Castle, I feel more interest in continuing it.

I bought a lot of costume and props back in February before Charlie pulled out. So there is things I have so its not a case of starting from scratch. I also have the enquiries I made at Nottingham City Artists and feel they still owe me. Over the months since February I've been participating in a lot of Voluntary work. I need to think if there is anything from these places that I can use. I have made connections in Oxfam so that's one possibility.

I've also got the potential to seek help from Guy, whilst Debbie assisted me props for my recent shoot with Charlotte Woolley for Hope Is Eternal. For my future projects I have connected pretty well with Charlotte recently. Unfortunately Marge is going to London.

NEW PROPS AND COSTUME

I bought new props and costume for my new shoot. Hope Is Eternal. My picture is to centre around the medal ceremony of a gymnastic's tournament won by the lead character. I decided to use props to make the picture quite abstract and think this box would be a interesting thing to recieve in addition to flowers.

I'm just trying to determine where we shoot the picture. I hoped to shoot in a training gym, so have made enquiries in our local area but we'll see how it goes. I'm most likely to enlist the help of Guy in the other part of the shoot.

I've also bought trousers for Annabel in the Misdirection, but we need to find a date to get on.

HOPE IS ETERNAL

I completed the Judith shoot with Steph on Monday, meaning I can now concentrate on a new project. As my work with Annabel has to wait I decided I'll move onto making a cover for my story Hope Is Eternal. I have sited Charlotte Woolley as the person to work with.

I am only looking for a cover and that's all. I might look for help from either Marge, Debbie, Victoria or Guy. Guy is still offering to help me which is good. I couldn't really make full use of him on Monday, but he could be useful for this next shoot.

I'd needed to acquire the costume for it first and try and find a location where I can carry out the shoot. There is a couple of Gymnast schools locally that could prove useful. It is not of paramount importance to know any gymnastics, although I believe Charlotte does have skills in this area. The shoot may attempt to use the idea of an article made by the local newspaper from where the lead character is based and from where she is attracting the countries national gymnastics body with her talent.

Not long after the article is written war hits the country and the lead character is forced into refugee status and forced out of her home with her mother. The article is positive and focuses on the lead characters talent. I had thought of it being taken in her gym using a boquet of flowers as props which can have a number of symbollic references.

UPDATE - I acquired a costume from Ebay and made an agreement with Charlotte. Now I just need to sort out the location. I've also seen a prop which is quite good, but i wish things were a little cheaper.

THE MISDIRECTION LATEST UPDATE

I have been moved out my space at TAO due to issues organising it. It wasn't a bad space for decorating, but it wouldn't have been able to do a massive job to it. I could have made it good enough for my shoot, but nothing beyond that.

My lead performer Annabel is appearing in Midsummer Nights Dream and Merchant of Venice around and about the Midlands and towards the South. So I'm looking at some period of availability. Therefore i'm still keen to do a shoot at Nottingham City Artists which i still see as an ideal spot to indicate Joe's workplace. Especially if the doors are shut. For this i will need the help of Alex or Raphael, but we'll see how it goes. I just need their permission really.

I already have the costume and I have some good props such as a old French magazine, a decent old looking bag, a flask, a match box which i picked up back in February. I have since been coming across a number of old and interesting books whilst volunteering at a prominent Charity Shop where all the city's donations are coming in. That's fantastic. I found a old travel guide written in French from the 50's which i feel could be useful.

My plan at TAO was to decorate a room to look similar to the place where Joe's is staying with his uncle. I was going to hire someone to play Joe's uncle and to bring in furniture and props. However I realised we are struggling to find time as it is to fit in this project. I've therefore decided upon three different shoots. The passport shoot and the workplace shoot are already planned. If we can fit in a third shoot taken on a train. It'll only need to be a short journey and I could employ the help of my brother for it who knows trains better than me. Using the books and match box as props, that shoot could work out quite well and would signify a departure.

With what help i use, we'll have to see. I waited for Kelly last time without reply until it wound me up so I should either aim either to work it on my own or with someone like Guy or Marge. I could have a second look at Anna's costume to test if i need to get her trousers. We already have that shirt and shoes so that's okay. Later in June i may see Annabel at her play. We'll have to see where we squeeze to shoot in, but for me I have to ensure that it is possible. Abandoning the TAO makes it more so as it reduces time.

JUDITH SHOOT

In 2009 and the latter part of 2008 i've barely done any work to be honest. In 2008 I came across people on Gumtree who i thought could move my project forward, but it came to nothing in the end. In the year I had begun talks regards working on shoots with Carrie Hill and Sam Clift. However at the same time there was unfinished work still to do for The Misdirection and The Accessor and I also had ideas for a new story called Hope Is Eternal. Too many different ideas going on inside my head confused me a lot. Besides that I left Surface Gallery.

The shoot which is most advanced in its planning at this moment in time is a picture of the character Judith from The Misdirection which I hired Stephanie Fitzpatrick to play. I have acquired costume and after a short time helping out in the kitchen at Ripple, I used my contacts there to be able to use that as a location. Also a media student called Guy Jenkins working there said he'd help out and so there is plenty of signs for progress. Judith is the ex schoolfriend of Joe's who he leaves Anna for later in the story. She works within a tavern which is where she spends much of her time in her role of cooking, serving behind the bar, cleaning and part taking in the general running of the place. I wanted to select a picture that depicts Judith as different from Anna, but also does not show her to be the focus of blame for how the story ends.

Before carrying out this shot i needed to do a little research of the type of menu this tavern would serve and the prices for food 15 years ago. Thanks to help from Howard Jacks and Andrew Peck i found out this information. Victoria also reminded me not to be overly flamboyant with the menu as that's not how it was back then. The picture isn't actually as exciting as being able to cook food and once again there is not many people needed on the shot. However I need something to write on a blackboard and that's basically what i need this information for.

There was some problems around the shoot date as I found myself cameraless, but bought a new one and still have the option to use Guy's help. I need to check the costume with Stephanie and would like to spend some time within Ripple planning. It should go fine though. Any video peice i hope to do would have to be on my camera too.

The Misdirection
Anna/ Joe

I have people in place to finish off the Misdirection, but was just waiting for the go ahead to move into my space and to start altering it. The first step was to paint and sweep it and then to start figuring out where to put furniture. In the end the Health and Safety wasn't great at the venue so i collected all my stuff and decided to try other scenes.

The Misdirection
Judith
I've had a bit of progress here. I defined a location a long time ago and the costume should be okay. I had a meeting with Steph at university which went well and I feel a lot more comfortable now about this shoot. It just requires me to do a little bit of research and then it should be ready. I have gained permission to use the space, so hopefully I can work on this soon.

Hope Is Eternal
Charlotte Woolley
For this story i've decided that i will not repeat the format for the Misdirection and will instead try to just make a cover. I have a simple idea for the cover. Will try to focus largely on the positive. I expect to learn lots for this story from my new job. I am open to the idea of working alongside a photographer. I haven't set the lead character or found a costume yet. I have an idea - using either a gym, a boquet of flowers, a picture from Croatia relating to the war (need to email friends) and a article type picture of the lead character. As to who plays the role Charlotte is physically up to it. It depends on her opinion really. I may try to meet her again.

Skin
This story is based on overcoming illness and based partly on my experiences working in a Radiotherapy Department and partly on my grandma. How we make this picture, I'll have to see. Again I'm starting to think of just a cover. The story can be made as a painting, drawing or still on a performance peice. It relates to how the lead character Melanie turns to art as form of a escape after being diagnosed with cancer. She uses art to explore changes to her body (life drawing), to describes her symptoms and her changes and impact it has on her life. At the point of her diagnosis she is a art student, but also a partly works a life model.

This story has changed a bit. It start of with Lia and Liz focusing on a life drawing, but then was a possibility of something with Carrie and Sam and now I may see what Heidi can make of it having been impressed by her of late.

SUCCESS OF VIDEO PEICES

Following the success of the video peices that i put on my profile, I may put one of my own up in which i take questions from an interviewer. I've already started writing out a script. I may use my own space to do it.

My recent castings have brought me lots of new opportunities. Besides the time already put into Marge Galinski, Carrie Hill, Victoria Howard, I have also connected with Simon Wilson Besgrove and Sophia Ereminowisz who are also local. This is positive as i have roles to fill.

As well as allegiances to Nottingham City Artists, hopefully I will build up connection with TAO. My problem will be if i can fit in all the tasks in the time I have.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS 2

My shoot scheduled for the 28th got cancelled so I'm going to recreate it and then to try again in a months time. I was forced to change my male actor so need to check if the costumes fits the new guy or if i need to look for more costume. The cancellation isn't 100% bad as i feel i can make it better than it might have been on the 28th.

I still want to use the outer structure of NCA to depict Joes workplace. Indoors was booked up for a fortnight after the 28th. I am looking to create the effect of a room, so I contacted Nottingham Arts Organisation and have been given some space to work with for a month. That's positive. Its up to me now to make something of the space i've been given. I managed to obtain some old wallpaper from a Retro Shop. There was some in my parents garage. I have a carpet that i could use and a few random ornaments and props. I also have an old typewriter. This is all stuff to work with.

I will search for some assistance. With it being at TAO Sam and Victoria might be interested. I'll have to see how it goes. Finding a new actor to play Joe is positive. It helps me to once again picture someone in the role rather than having a vacant hole. My next move is to check the costume and to create the space.

20.3.2010
I checked the costume and its fine. I'm gradually building a connection with Rob at TAO and hoping to work with the space. Regardless of my small friction was NCA I still want to use the outer space and hope to do so. I'd like ideally to get all the things on site.

THE MISDIRECTION: JOE CHARACTER DESC

Name: Joseph Dobie (known as Joe)
Age: 18 to 26
Born: In Northern Ireland

Joe is the first object of love in Anna's life when she sees him at the bus stop in her hometown in France. Joe is from a town in Northern England. He is 18 and has just finished college and has gone on vacation to spend time with his uncle in France. He has many close friends from school including Judith that he sees regularly.

Joe is in the mood to explore whilst in France. Sometimes he goes around with his uncle and also goes venturing about himself. He is keen to find acquaintances in the town. Anna's interest in him is a benefit. He is not tied up to anyone and feels free to do things at present. He is happy to see Anna whilst in France and happy to visit her as often as she likes, aware that everything will change when he goes home when he is expected to get a job by his uncle and aunt, with whom he lives with.

As he meets Anna more they talk a lot about each others situations and he begins to want to help Anna out. He is staying with his uncle who is relatively laid back with the view that it doesn't particularly concern him allowing Joe to have freedom whilst on his vacation. Joe concieves the plan of allowing Anna to return home with him and of travelling through France together after he learns that Anna has left home. Joe means well in his venture. He believes Anna will be taken in when he goes back to her aunts and believes he is only doing her good.

When they return to England the financial pressure is greater and work is organised for him almost immediately. His life becomes surrounded in work and Joe struggles to save his leisure time just for Anna as the friends that are absent from his life in France reappears. Anna is also struggling to settle due to the reality of leaving her hometown and family dawns on her. She also feels pathetic in the company of Joe's friends as she struggles to learn the language. Over time Anna and Joe realise their time spent in France has gone and their relationship starts to aimlessly drift, with no real arguements, but of acceptance that it is perhaps not working out as they hoped.

During work Joe enjoys the banter of his workplace and is not too fussed about his job or hours. He struggles to see how he can help Anna. His uncle and aunt are also thinking of selling the house and moving away. Joe and Anna can't afford to take it on - then Anna becomes pregnant and pressure further increases on Joe. It succeeds however in reviving things a little. He finds Anna a very small flat.

THE MISDIRECTION: ANNA CHARACTER DESC

Name: Anna Kaneda
Age in storyline - 16-25
Appearence Specification: Long Straight Hair, No Make up, Bitten Finger nails
Costume Appearences: Alternates between black pumps, trainers of the time, long warn out second hand dresses, Shirts, Trousers.
Born in France; Rarely left her home town
Siblings: One brother named Benoit; Mother and Father divorced.
Family: Lives with mother and visits her fathers.

Personality: Introverted, though experiences high rise in mood during periods of positivity like when she meets Joe.
School Personality: Anna has a unsuccessful unhappy school life. She struggles to cope with school environment and with figures of authority destroying her confidence. Engages in Avoidant behaviour.
Work Personality: Anna performs very well at work as a part receptionist/ runner at a car scrapyard business owned by a friend of her fathers. She communicates well with the rest of the employees, though none of them are same age as her. She gives most of her wage to her father to help him pay off gambling debts.
Sexual Personality: Anna is introverted. She does not think much about her physical appearence. She has private desire for friendship - struggles to identify with the most popular peers in her class and is often on the fringes with few friends.
Pleasures: Anna likes drawing, listening to people playing instruments on the street, going on long lonely walks.
Activities: Anna works in a garage/ car scrapyard in France and gives some of her money to her mother and some to her father. She picks her brother up from his friends after school and undertakes household chores whilst her mother works long hours.

Relationship to her brother: At first it is very strong - something she tries to repeat with her son Renaud. Benoit grows apart from her when he attends school and make friends of her own age. Depicted in the Messy Scene.
Relationship to her mother: Strained. The result of a difference of opinion over her divorce with her father. Anna's mother is also disatisfied with Anna's performance at school - being how she is a teacher - is embarrassed Anna performs so badly. Also her mother's sister has a daughter who excels at school and has gone on to university. Celia and Anna are toys in a sibling rivalry. She is also annoyed at Anna's time she spends with her father who walked out and also at the mother Anna gives him.

Anna's relationship to Joe in France: Joe is the boy who Anna sees at a bus stop after a busy day at work. She is immediately attracted to him and spends the next week trying to befriend him. He offers her escapism from the mundane unhappy life she leads. He is also a foriegner on vacation in her hometown which Anna finds exciting. They start to spend time together. To Joe Anna is interesting and like a guide in a place where he doesn't really know anyone else apart from his uncle. Spending time with Anna makes his vacation more interesting.

Anna's decision to leave home: Anna is extremely depressed at the thought of Joe's vacation ending and them not seeing each other again. She does not believe he will think of her when they are away from each other. She is growing increasingly unhappy in her life in France and feels desperate to break free from her troubles. She decides to chance on idea that sheet can form a life with Joe in France and steps out of her routine to try to make it work.

Anna's emotions during her journey after she leaves home and goes to England: The journey away from her hometown is entirely in Joe's hands. Seemingly organised between Joe's uncle with whom he is on vacation in France and Joe's aunt who he lives with in England. She feels reliant on others which does not sit easy with her and is worried about entering the unknown - a new country and new language with no money and no job and no real clue about how her new life will be. She feels very exposed, but has passed up everything and feels this is the path she's taken. She has many misgivings about leaving Benoit, about her mothers reaction, about abandoning her father and about what she will do with her time now she no longer has her job.

What happens in Anna and Joe's relationship in France?
Joe is on vacation. Anna is still working at a scrap yard and picking Renaud up from his friends after school. When he first meets Joe - he is at a bus stop and they are strangers. Anna starts to talk to him, but they part. Anna finds him again and she offers to show him around places in her area. They talk a lot about his life, her life and problems. Anna skips work a couple of days as her need to see Joe grows stronger. Joe is staying with his uncle. His uncle is a writer, photographer, journalist. Within his house is characterised by a pet rabbit, a type writer which is constantly rattling away and a converted cellar which intrigues Anna as is full of costumes and a dark room. Anna finds Joe's uncle interesting, but at same time is made to understand he doesn't exactly approve of her attempts to leave with Joe. Prior to leaving by train - partly funded by Joe's uncle - Anna and Joe spend the night at his house. They sleep in the same bed that night. They also stop on their way out of France at a hotel and sleep together again. This is Anna's first experiences of being in this situation.

Anna and Joe when they reach England: Anna acclimitization to a new country is every bit as hard as she thinks it would be. She cannot speak the language and has no friends in the area. She is very reliant on Joe to get around and doesn't feel she can do much whilst living in her aunts house. She is lost without her job and wants one again. Her day amounts to bringing lunch to Joe at his work which he undertakes as a welder again via family ties. She feels a bit of a burden. She tries to be positive, but both she and Joe are become stuck in the mundanity of the toil of work and earning enough money to survive. Their happy time in the France seems long in the past and forgotten. Anna starts to miss home, but feels she cannot return. She feels hated by her family now and is desperate for a breakthrough.

To Charlie and Annabel: This is to the point which you really need to know about. The rest is not stuff we're gonna shoot. The point we are shooting is when Anna and Joe are attempting to form their new life together in England.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

In between laying floorboards in time for new tenants to move into a property at the end of the month and staving off Council morons, I'm preparing my upcoming shoot with Annabel and Charlie. It is going okay. Travel tickets have been booked. Locations been booked. Quite a bit of both their costumes has arrived. Some interesting props have arrived, but i ask myself

do i need to search for some more? do i need to get a white shirt?

My life is divided between watching Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett Version) and trying to initiate voluntary work at several places. The remaining time will be spent informing both Charlie and Annabel about the scene we are doing. All the little frustrating stuff is out the way like costume finding, locations etc. Its now time to pass on info about the storyline and the characters they are playing.

THE MISDIRECTION: WAITRESS SCENE

Waitress/ Nikki played by Emma Hall

Anna and Joe attempt to break away from the stress they are under to set up a new life together. They don’t have much money, but can afford one moment indulgence together and decide to go to stop over in a random city on there trip out of France and go to restaurant for a meal together. It is confirmation for Anna that she is going ahead with this and a happy moment for her. The waitress that serves them interests Anna and makes her think about her job she no longer has and fund herself without it.

THE MISDIRECTION: ACQUIRING PROPS

I've been hunting for props for the shoot on the 28th and found this flask on Ebay which looks really suitable, so i bought it :) My idea is shoot pictures on Anna during when he visits Joe during his lunch break and also when they are travel together from the South of France to the Northern border immediately after she leaves home.

THE MISDIRECTION: BIRTHDAY SCENE

Annabel Bates as Anna

The story drops back and forth between the past following Anna’s leaving from France and the present when she is slumped against the wall at her flat (Opening Scene). When she thinks about Joe, she thinks about him not being around anymore in the present. She looks to her child and he is the one person she is left with. The picture explores Anna’s relationship with her child which results from her time spent with Joe. Joe is not much involved in Renaud’s upbringing and Anna puts everything into making him happy. She can bring him up in her own way and she attempts to make up for all the things that didn’t go well through her time with him. The Birthday scene demonstrates how Anna improvises and tries hard to keep life interesting for her child. She is a single parent who is on the verge of trying to get part time work, but is limited in how much she can earn through the time she needs to be around for Renaud. She makes a special attempt on Birthday to make the day fun. They have no easy form of entertainment like many local friends and don’t have a TV or Radio in the flat. Her child is obsessed with drawing and she fuels these activities. On one birthday she dresses as a clown, they make a birthday cake together and she does a magic show and play games together. The scene describes the nature of their relationship and how he is Anna’s consolation.

THE MISDIRECTION: SUMMARY

The story begins describing a block of flats in Northern England on a cold winter night and then concentrates upon two inhabitants of one of the flats. Both are sleeping. An 8 year old child named Renaud and his French born mother Anna. Anna wakes when a cold breeze enters their room through a boarded up window. She cannot return to sleep once she is awake. She is distressed by her dream and goes over and sits up against the wall. She starts to re-enter her past through her daydream and the story follows her thoughts travelling back to her life as a 17 year old living in Southern France with her younger brother and authoritative mother. In this period in her life Anna is struggling at school and finds it hard to make friends. She cannot please her mum and quits school without telling her. She gets a job to help her father (who is estranged from his wife) pay gambling debts. Anna is used by most of the people in her life. Her mother does not love her and thinks she is a failure, her father uses her to get money and her work colleagues see her as their run around. She cares about her brother who she helps bring up in his young life, but he loses interest in her when he goes to school and makes friends of his own age. She feels very fed up with her life until at a bus stop she meets a 19 year old called Joe who is visiting in her hometown. She sees him during a space of a couple of months and decides to leave with him to his home in North England. They live with Joe's aunt and uncle. Anna lives rent free when she first arrives and tries to repay them by doing housework and being a good tenant. She is trying to learn English, but is struggling and converses still in her natural language. She gets a job breifly, but becomes pregnant not long after and has to give it up. When she gives birth to Renaud she is extremely happy as she feels she has something to concentrate her life on, but her relationship with Joe does not take off when she arrives in England. He is less attracted to her back home than during his stay in France. She doesn't seem able to leave her past behind and doesn't involve herself much in his life in England. He stills wants to go out and see his friends and doesn't really feel ready to be tied down to a family. When Renaud is born its bad news for him. He however sees Anna is happy and is glad at that that and thinks he has achieved what he planned with her which was to help improve her life from how things were for her. He realises though he doesn't love her enough to want to stay with her in a long term relationship He begins seeing an old schoolfriend who he is more compatible to and eventually he and Anna decide to live apart. He helps her get a flat that is not in a great area and he sends her money from his job to help support their child. Joe's rejection of her really batters Anna's confidence in other people and she does not pursue a future partner in the rest of the story. Anna was devoted to Joe and thought he was the only person who ever really cared enough about her. Once he is not in her life she puts her whole effort into bringing up Renaud in the difficult surroundings of their rough apartment block. During this time Anna becomes physically a symbol of her poverty not having much money to spend on herself and encounters problems in her area. She has no friends here (she only knows very basic English) and strangers seem adverse to her. She suffers a physical assault after answering back to some people that carelessly knock her and her child over when messing around, that leaves her with injuries that hinder her life for a fortnight. Despite her troubles though Anna has developed a spirit to fight for son that he does not suffer due to what she is experiencing. Anna shares a very close relationship with her son. She is very good to him. All the things they can afford she gets for him and spends little on her own wants and desires. As they are on there own together a lot of the time without a TV or Radio in their flat, they talk a lot and find alternative methods of entertainment. They go on walks to places and Anna encourages him in anything he takes interest. He spends a lot of time drawing pictures from photographs Anna takes from around the city and Anna gives him little fun exercises to do. Anna makes a special effort on Renauds birthdays. On one birthday she dresses as a clown and performs simple magic tricks which she learns from a book. When Renaud is a little older Anna does not hold him back from making friends despite her own isolation. He starts to play with a friend from school who lives on the same apartment block. Anna dedicates her whole time into seeing Renaud happy and she regains worth back into her life, despite the setbacks and her personal trauma of her own life in South France and with the breakup of her relationship with Joe. I haven't settled on one set ending to this story yet, but there is not happy conclusion for Anna. Time passes on during the night whilst Anna relives past events over in her mind. It is a regular occurance for her as she cannot sleep properly due to her bad memories. She has to get Renaud ready for school. He has a match later with other kids in his class after school and Anna promises him that she will be their to watch him. After dropping him off at school though she is knocked down by a car as she accidently steps out at a bad time..

THE MISDIRECTION: CELIA SCENE

Kathryn Mason as Celia
Photographed by Imran K

Celia is Anna’s cousin. She is the focal point of rivalry between Anna’s mother and her sister. Celia is succeeding at school whereas Anna struggles to fit in and seeks to find work as soon as she can to help her father pay gambling debts. Celia is the source of pride in Anna’s mother’s family whereas Anna has little respect. Anna is effected during her teenage years by her parents splitting up and her father leaving the household and she has no confidence in herself at school.
Anna’s mother is disgusted how badly Anna does at school and she sees Anna as an embarrassment to her. She further focuses herself on her own career to stay one step ahead of her sibling, but Anna and her younger Benoit are left much to their own devices as a result. This picture appears during where Anna’s family structure is described and where her difficult life in France is put across. Anna doesn’t however blame Celia when her mother sees her as the daughter she wishes she had. Celia is wrapped up in trying to fulfil the expectations of her and normally succeeds, but she struggles with the adhering to the perfect image people have of her. She hides her smoking habit and is seen as someone who is to good for others, but watches a man that changes in front of a window from the bathroom where she can see him. Anna sees Celia as being secretly mixed up as she is, but masks it being her successful academic achievement

THE MISDIRECTION: DRINKING GLASS SCENE

Annabel Bates as Anna

Anna leaves her home address in a hurry. Knowing that her family will oppose her leaving to England, she just decides to gather the things she needs and goes. She leaves with just a rucksack on her shoulder containing one change of clothes. After a few days away from home she has been walking long distances, out in the rain and through forests and has not had chance to have a bath since. Anna and Joe are staying over temporarily at a place. Anna has spent days wearing and a night sleeping in the same clothes and finally decides she needs to clean up and change. This scene describes a little about Anna’s personality and her relationship with Joe.
It is just after she has left home and is in the midst of her travel out of France. She is staying over at a relative of Joe’s and cannot sleep for long. She slips away to shower to get a spare moment away on her own. She has just left home and it is a very sudden and life changing thing for do. She is unsure of herself, her future and about her relationship at this point with Joe.

During Anna’s time in France her dress is not very fashionable and she is not popular at school. She rotates the same clothes time and again for a long period. She feels warn down by leaving and decides she needs to make an effort to improve her appearance. Anna has never been in a relationship before and she is really drawn to Joe. Whilst Joe and everyone in the building is asleep she slips away to the bathroom to have a bath. She does not like boys at school and her norm is to do everything she can to not attract them. She doesn’t intermix, is quiet and wears long skirt and shirts and high neck T Shirts. Following her bath she feels cleaner. She considers she might have to let her normal guard down now she is left Joe and be more open to him and less protective of herself than the first days she spends with him. The alternative clothes she has are the most fashionable she has. It is a checked top and loose fitting very dark purple trouser’s. Her hair is wet and she has no towel so dries it on her clothes and dares to be more care free.

She goes downstairs to get a drink and sits at a table and begins to think about how her family will react to her leaving and how she will cope with what lies ahead. At this stage of the story Anna is still in France and can turn back and is nervous about her future. She worries about waking anyone and lights a candle that only lights her tiny space in the room at the table. She has a English book and is trying to learn English, but is not getting very far with it

THE MISDIRECTION: WOODLAND SCENE

This is a potential cover page for the book. It depicts during her life in France. She takes to the woodland to get an escape from her problems and where she feels free from everyone.

THE MISDIRECTION: OPENING SCENE

Annabel Bates as Anna

This photo still reflects the Opening part of the story where we first meet Anna and her young child Renaud. They are described living in a dilapidated block of flats as they sleep during a cold winter’s night. Anna awakes as a cold breeze catches her at her leg which is outside the blanket. She wakes from her dream and for a moment is unsure of where she is. She looks to a clock at the side of her bed and then sees the boarding on the window has broken. She looks again at the clock and sees the picture of Joe nearby which she brings to her face. She slips out from the bed, puts a coat over her child and slumps against the wall and drifts into half sleep, half awake. The story follows her thoughts as she looks into the picture and thinks about the past when she lived in South France, just before meeting him

NEW COSTUME

I am still making progress with the shoot i intend to do with Charlie and Annabel. The icy weather forced me to venture down a shortcut to the job centre on Monday to a road which i consider suitable for the shoot. I realised that i have also been rotating the same two costumes for shots i'd been doing with Annabel so bought another dress for her from Oxfam. I also got a boilet suit in Charlie's size so as to be able to centre a shoot around his work place.

I'm still not at the end of the planning for this shoot. I still want to do that shot depicting Joe's passport picture. It'd also be nice if could get into a location suitable to suggest to Joe's workplace. I've sent many letters before, but people aren't civil to even reply these days.

Lace Market Theatre, Superfly Bar and a studio in Carlton were all receptive to my enquiries about a location. I've also practically acquired Charlie's costume now. Nottingham City Artists were also positive about me shooting there so have to visit them, as well as the Loft, but that is all about another shoot. I am intrigued by an idea of using space at NCA as its a venue that's interested me from when i used to take flyers there from Surface Gallery way back in 2006.

I've agreed a day with Annabel and Charlie.
